VRHS Parent/ Coach speaks out about the VRHS fields

Dear Board,

I am writing to the board to express my opinion on building a baseball field for Vista Ridge. We are currently the only high school in this city that does not have a baseball field for our players. Falcon and Vista Ridge were built at the same time and adequate facilities were provided to Falcon. They could have used the old schools field. This is the third high school for Falcon and all three have had baseball fields. Our players are required to travel for practice and games out to PLC and share with other little league teams.

It would seem that rather than putting any additional money into replacing fields that are already in existence, I would say stick to the original agreement for Vista Ridge and provide the baseball field in the second year of existence. Which I believe was part of the original agreement when Vista Ridge was built.

MS- I wasn't on the board then, but I am told that there was no timeline as the additional fields are unfunded future projects.

Vista Ridge will lose players/students and coaches to other schools possibly outside the district if we continue to ignore this problem. I hope you will take into consideration that we already had one year making adjustments without a proper field.

Please vote for a baseball field at Vista Ridge High School.

Thank You for your time.

Dear NW

The cost to fully finish VRHS far exceeds the funds available. The cause goes back to the 2005 Mill Levy. The estimates given the voters were not firm bids. By the time the Mill Levy passed, and the contracts were signed, steel and concrete had gone up dramatically. Cost overruns and time delays were suffered due to site prep and soils issues. It may take a VRHS completion funding addition tacked on to the next Bond issue to fully finish all the needs and master planned facilities. We do not have the money for all of them at this time. So we must prioritize.

Thank You for your input and for representing the parents of the baseball program.
