DAAC CHAIRMAN PAT LAVERTY responds:
Seriously, are you blaming the school board for everything...that is ridiculous! There are a lot of factors involved in this and while no one will be satisfied with these results, the important thing is that there are very competent teachers, administrators, community members, parents, etc., who have worked very hard on school improvment plans, innovative teaching ieas and the like that will help our students learn what they need to so that they have opportunities for higher education and that they have the skill set to help make them productive citizens.
From the Gazette article "This year, the CDE has sliced and diced test scores in new ways, looking for sustained growth instead of a snapshot in time that the raw test scores represent.
Raw CSAP scores tend to go up and down and often defy interpretation." I personally sat with many community members on the DAAC this past year as we reviewed school improvment plans and I'm very comfortable that our students will be just fine and that by the end of the year we will see marked improvment. I'm sure our new Supt will closely examine these results and use his his very capable staff to help ensure just that.
Good try, but not everything is the school boards fault. In fact, I'd like to see some more parental involvment at home for many students...what do you say about that? Or is the fact that the divorce rate is up so we have more single parents, economy is bad so more parents are working 2 jobs...is that the school boards fault also????.

D49 Director Mark Shook responds:
While a new trend and lower scores may not be the school boards "fault", it certainly is our responsibility to address and provide the vision for improvement.
I had a heads up last quarter from learning services on these new measurements, and was expecting that weaknesses would be revealed.
That is one of many reasons I supported Brad Schoeppey as our new Superintendent. Dr. Schoeppey has experience in improving struggling schools. He is all about accountability, and making the necessary changes with NO excuses.
When Dr. Schoeppey wants to make a change in programs or leadership in the administration, or at the school level, he will have the support of this board member.
District 49 will become a district of measurable achievement.
Our children deserve nothing less.
